        <![CDATA[<p>To access support, activities and events that will help your organisation develop high quality teaching and learning that will enable more learners to develop their literacy, language and numeracy (LLN) skills and to progress in life and work. </p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>In each region, a network of Lead Providers from within the sector, with proven expertise in delivering high quality LLN activities, will help providers. </p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Support will be customised to organisational priorities and staff at different levels within the organisation will have the opportunity to engage with the programme. It may be offered through consultancy, continuing professional development, webinars, study visits or peer working groups. </p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>This year applications will be welcomed from the following priority groups:</p>
<ul>
<li>providers that are new to delivering LLN programmes;</li>
<li>providers that are underperforming;</li>
<li>providers with employer facing activity, seeking to improve the LLN skills of learners on apprenticeship programmes;</li>
<li>offender learning institutions. <br /></li></ul>

        <![CDATA[<p><font style="FONT-SIZE: 1.25em">The fundamental principle underpinning this paper is that we in the East Midlands must ensure that we can meet the literacy, ESOL and numeracy needs of our learners; this can only happen if we make sure there are sufficient high quality literacy, ESOL and numeracy specialists in the region.</font></p>
<p><font style="FONT-SIZE: 1.25em"></font>&nbsp;</p><font style="FONT-SIZE: 1.25em">
<p><br /><font style="FONT-SIZE: 0.8em">The focus for this <a href="http://www.thelearningchain.net/RegionalPlan_SfLLN_TT_East_Midlands_Final.pdf">Regional Plan</a> is the training and development of teachers who specialise in English (literacy and ESOL) and Maths (Numeracy) in the context of both Skills for Life and Functional Skills.</font></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><font style="FONT-SIZE: 0.8em">We argue that there is a need for a regional approach to teacher training for literacy, ESOL and numeracy specialists. The Coaching Ambassadors' role is to highlight the great work coaching has achieved in recent years through various LSIS programmes, such as the Subject Learning, Coach, E-guide and Professional Development Advisors Programmes and their advanced level equivalents. Each of these roles has a core of coaching skills as the basis for peer-supported professional and organisational development. <o:p></o:p></font></span></p>

We are therefore inviting experienced STEM teaching staff to join the coaching ambassador events and network to help shape coaching, and the benefits of the approach, for the future. <o:p></o:p></font></span></p>

<p>It has been particularly designed for tutor-assessors delivering EMCETT's blended-learning<br />models of the new teaching qualifications. </p>

<p>Throughout the last&nbsp;four years&nbsp;as&nbsp;EMCETT has&nbsp;supported the development and delivery of sector-led teacher training programmes,&nbsp;it has been apparent that new teacher educators frequently lack confidence in delivering theoretical perspectives on teaching and learning. </p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p align="left">There is a widely held belief that a deep academic grounding in the historical and current theories of teaching and learning (though mostly of the latter) is essential for credibility and effectiveness within the role. Whilst this is,indeed, the orthodox view, EMCETT believes that it is time to challenge this position because&nbsp;this belief&nbsp;often undermines the confidence of very effective practitioners who would otherwise be highly effective in mentoring and training new teachers. It is the EMCETT view that much of what is taught as learning theories has little relevance to applied pedagogy and the day-to-day experience in the classroom.</p>
<p align="left">&nbsp;</p>
<p align="left">The approach taken in this pamphlet is, therefore, to concentrate on the 'broad brush' or 'big ideas' that reflect - or might challenge - the trainee's thinking about teaching and learning and to then focus in the most recent evidence-based approaches to effective pedagogy.&nbsp; Throughout, the focus is - and, we believe, should be - on practical strategies for effective teaching that can be clearly demonstrated in classroom observations.</p><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Verdana', 'sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 9pt"><o:p>

        <![CDATA[Good news.&nbsp; LSIS is giving every provider an additional £1000 worth of credit in their LSIS account to mark the start of the new academic year.&nbsp; The total amount of credit in your LSIS account is for your organisation to spend by 31 March 2011.&nbsp; Using this credit gives your organisation access to various LSIS programmes free of charge<br /><br />All Learning and Skills sector providers can now apply for virtual credit in the form of an LSIS account.
